Nadine Robbins’ portraits – including “Epic,” “She-Ra” and “Serafina” – are to be featured alongside works by world-renowned painters like Sylvia Maier, according to a statement from Robbins.
The exhibit, called “Formation,” is to run at the gallery, 37 W. 57th St., from Jan. 12 – Feb. 25.
“Being in the show is an amazing opportunity and I feel really lucky and humbled to be in it,” said Robbins.
Known for their “boldness as much as their hyper-realist detail and sumptuous color,” Robbins’ portraits feature subjects who “look directly at their viewers and invited them into an honest and authentic discourse,” according to the Milan, N.Y., artist.
“My paintings aren’t the type of narrative you have to figure out,” she said. “They’re more pragmatic and literal.”
In her portrait, “Epic,” Robbins paints her son, who had gathered everything that meant “cool” to him before striking a "fearless" pose, according to the artist, who said she seeks to “share the stories and personalities of ordinary people,” as opposed to perfecting the human form.
In other portraits – like “She-Ra” and others featured in her “Bad Habits and Guilty Pleasures” series – Robbins' focus is on her models’ vulnerabilities, vices, silly sides and indulgences, according to the artist.
Robbins, an American painter, photographer and designer who grew up in the United States and France, has had several of her portraits presented at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London, according to her statement.
Other works have been exhibited in several galleries in the United States, and Europe and in Fine art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, Artsy, the Huffington Post and Poets and Artists magazine, which is to present “Formation” in conjunction with the Bernarducci Meisel Gallery.
